We are a group of 4 golfers, with handicaps ranging from 7 to 24. We have played at Islantilla for the last 6 years, and we have seen a great improvement in the facilities over that time. The greenkeepers have done fantastic work in recent years, clearing out dense undergrowth from the sides of fairways, and improving several greens and tee boxes. They have also invested in an increased number of buggies, which is a great help. Every year we have stayed in a different set of rooms, and they are consistently well-equipped. The buffet is always fantastic, with a menu that changes each day of the week. The staff are always super friendly, especially Jesus and Jose Luis in the pro shop. The courses: Blue: toughest of the 3 loops, but my favourite. Dog-leg holes going both left and right, with some thinking required off the tee to maintain a good score. Favourite hole is the dog-leg left par 4 6th, with a pond in front of the green. Position in the right of the fairway makes a much easier approach. Green: easiest of the courses, with some wider fairways and a few chances to make birdie. The down-hill par 5 3rd hole is a challenging par 5, but hit a straight drive and it will keep rolling forever! Yellow: really fun set of holes, with the unusual characteristic of starting Par 5, Par 3, Par 5, Par 3, Par 5. Tricky to play for the first time, but once you understand the routing this is a great challenge with very clever set-up. I love the 3rd, a long meandering par 5 going round to the right. The 8th is a short par 4 with pond in front of the green - doesn't need a big drive, but it's all about a confident second to a 2-tier green. Highlights: - Buffet food is great - Diverse range of holes - not a single boring hole out of all 27 - Easy check in and check out, with luggage storage facilities - Such friendly people everywhere - The weather! Suggested improvements: - The driving range is often played from the forward tee box, which means no practicing with woods. It would be great if the practice tees were moved backwards to allow all types of club to be used - Would love to have coffee-making facilities in the rooms, or even just a kettle - The club house used to offer a really great burger with fries. In recent years the burger and fries got a lot smaller, which is a big shame. All in all, we love Islantilla and will keep coming back every year for as long as we continue to enjoy at this level. Next trip in 3 weeks!
