Our visit to Golf de la Boulie - Racing Club de France has left us with mixed feelings. We were on our way to the Ryder Cup (on Sunday) and decided to play a course on Saturday before heading to our hotel. By checking some courses on Leadingcourses near Paris we decided to go to La Boulie. We called them on our way to Paris and they said that it would be possible to play here, which is great as normally the weekends are reserved for members. On Leadingcourses it mentioned that greenfee is around 75 euro, so we assumed it would be around that price or slightly higher. However when we showed up, the greenfee turned out to be 150 euro (!), probably because of the Ryder Cup. You could see that as they placed signs (next hole) which were clearly new and temporary. The golf club itself looks great, there is a lot of activity going on (kids lessons, families on the terrace, etc.), the clubhouse is impressive, the puttinggreens are awesome, but the course (Le Vallée) is just not worth that kind of money. And Le Vallée course is the highest rated of the club. So, at the end we were a bit disappointed. The Vallée course is a decent hilly course with quite a lot of old trees surrounding it. We walked the course, but we would advice to take a buggy if you are not very fit. When we were here quite a few fairways did not look very nice (brown spots, dry). We know that it has been dry, but many courses recovered already and if you pay 150 euro you expect to play a well maintained course. That's also the downside when asking that kind of money; the level of expectations goes up quite a bit. There are some nice holes - most of them you play from a tee-box that is placed on top of the hill and then you play down. The clubhouse is situated on the highest point and the holes run around it, requiring some uphill shots and climbs and vice versa. I liked the back nine best, but hole 18 is currently in maintenance and unfortunately does not end up at the clubhouse. A pity in my opinion, as there is enough space to make the routing end there. A pity is also the noise of traffic from the highways surrounding the course. The course really gives you the impression that you are playing on a large estate far away from Paris, but the noise of cars and traffic will remind you that this is not really the case. So summarizing, a great and impressive golf club. The golf course itself is decent and good, especially when paying 75 euro. For 150 euro however the course is just not good enough. My rating would have been higher if we would have paid the normal fee, but now I have to compare it to other highly priced courses.
