Little gem just outside Lagos and reminded me a bit of Monte Rei. No, it's not Monte Rei yet, it's more the little brother that needs to grow up a bit. Just like Monte Rei, Espiche is not located along the coast, but a little more on the country side. It's quiet and the holes really stand out in the arid surroundings. The course does not have any villa's or property built on the course (Monte Rei has some) and is not planning to do so, so the feel is pretty pristine. The clubhouse is very nice and has great views across the course. In my opinion this course has a lot going for it and - although it might need to mature a bit - it might become a rival for the top courses in the Algarve. Soon they will start building villa's, but these will not be located on the course but on the way to the course. The golf course itself is pretty tight and technical, but I really liked it. Perhaps also because I played well and my drives were straight (and the manager was playing with us, so I had a lot of local knowledge). Certainly a course to play multiple times. Mediocre golfers might think this course is difficult, but then it might be a good idea to tee off from the red tees. By the way, they are currently cleaning up a lot of bushes along the course, to make it more playable for average handicap golfers. Still, if you are not straight from the tees, make sure to pack some extra balls. I liked it a lot and I will not mind to play it once more! Keep up the good work!
