I had the opportunity to play the 2 courses at La Zagaleta on an invite, and that was for me the incentive to go to Marbella. First thing you need to know is that both courses are about 2 kilometers apart, so you need to know where you want to go first. New course : Steve Marnoch design. The setting of this track is spectacular. 18 holes you have amazing views from all the area and other holes. The architect named it the most illogical place to build a golf. However a lot of earth must have been moved and a big budget spent to build a playable course. However every hole is a potential disaster (lost ball) as there are ravines to cross or bordering the fairways. To enjoy New to the fullest, you need to have a good day and play to percentages, fortunately I played well. Old course : It's a more 'friendly' design than New, with more room for error, and very enjoyable holes. It also doesn't play too long. The architect Brad Brenz was someone I don't know from other courses, but good work was delivered. Greens were very fast. Maintenance on both course is excellent. Staff is friendly and hospitable. A comment was previously made that there's more staff then people on the course, well that's probably true. We played the 36 holes without having anyone in front of us or behind, it was very enjoyable. If you ever have the chance to visit La Zagaleta, you should do as us and book your flight to Malaga. It's an unforgettable experience.
