The Penina Championship course is a typical park course and has a certain 'grandeur'. It is certainly not a 'what you see is what you get' course. The course is flat and has several water hazards, mostly creeks crossing the fairways at a certain point. Some of the water hazards only become visible when you are in their proximity. I played the Sir Henry Cotton Championship Course, widely advertised as the first 18 holes course in the Algarve and venue of the Portugal Open 2004. The course can be described as a classic golf course in a flat parkland setting. The course has had an upgrade a few years ago, with more emphasis on water features, creeks, ditches and bunkers.
