Quinta de Cima, and its sister course Quinta da Ria, lie in the Eastern Algarve in Portugal. Both courses are being used by the Clube de Golfe do Levante, or the Levante GC. I have written a review for Quinta da Ria a while ago and will dig into Quinta de Cima today. Quinta de Cima is the championship course of the 2 courses, designed by American golf architect Rocky Roquemore. The design is characterised by long holes, lots of bunkers and quite some daunting water features. It is of interest to know that Monthly Medals played on de Cima are not being played from the white tee-box, as that is considered too difficult for too many players. You have to play the course a few times before you start to understand its difficulties. To help you a bit, there is a wealth of information on the website, including the lay-out per hole and Pro-tips. One element I think the course needs to work on is that there is way too much sand in the bunkers. This is a course for the serious golfer that likes a good golfing challenge. The terrain is pretty flat so the course is walk-able. Next to Quinta de Cima you will find excellent practice facilities like a 2-sided driving range, a lovely chipping and separate putting green, both with bunkers next to it. To top it all off, there is a nice 3 holes, with double tee-boxes, par 3 Academy Course to sharpen your short game.
