Accolti dal golf manager e dal personale con molta cortesia e professionalità abbiamo vissuto una giornata di golf difficile a causa della pioggia e del vento ma tutto ciò fa parte del golf in Scozia... Campo stupendo! Emozionante il tee shot alle prime luci dell alba.

Muirfield is Muirfield :The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. En om er te mogen spelen, kost wel een beetje moeite en kan alleen maar op de ochtendjes die Muirfield wenst te bieden en tegen een behoorlijk groot bedrag. De weg naar Muirfield is ook niet aangegeven, zoals je in Schotland gewend bent: op elke hoek staat wel een wegwijzer naar de plaatselijke golfbaan. Zo niet Muirfield. Niets. Je behoort het te weten?

Aan het eind van de weg is er een gesloten hek, zo'n 100 meter er voor is er rechts een parkeerplaats voor je auto.

Eenmaal binnen is het een zeer vriendelijke club!, Door je greenfee ben je een member van een dag, en zo voelt het ook!

De baan is lang en moeilijk en de dag dat ik er speelde regende het in het begin licht, kwam even later de zon eventjes en werd het daarna steeds bewolkter om, gelukkig na mijn ronde te plenzen van de regen. De hele dag was er echter wel een behoorlijk stevige wind. Minder hard dan 2 dagen ervoor op Gullane, dat wel een orkaan leek. Maar toch een forse wind die het spel mee bepaalde en die mij in ieder geval behoorlijk uitputte.

De greens zijn snel en niet altijd makkelijk te lezen, De rough is erg, erg moeilijk. Dit is een van de mooiste linksbanen, en een van de moeilijkste linksbanen die ik gespeeld heb

Het absolute voorbeeld van een linksbaan.

Schitterende layout met alle denkbeeldige situaties van een links: afstand, duinen, rough, ongelooflijke bunkers, super greens.

Bezoekers enkel na afspraak op dinsdag en donderdag. Aan te raden om tevens een lunch in het clubhuis te boeken en in de namiddag een foursome als afsluiter.

Muirfield remains a challenge to the world's great golfers and is often regarded as the fairest test of all Open Championship venues. Indeed it has produced some notable and worthy champions in the post-war era including Henry Cotton, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson, Nick Faldo (twice), Ernie Els and Phil Mickleson.

A round of golf over this cherished links is therefore to be treasured. The Club provide two visitor days each week and these get booked up at least a year in advance. However, those electing to reserve a fourball on either a Tuesday or Thursday must part with the princely sum of £800 for their tee-time. At £200 per head this rules out many golfers from enjoying a round here (myself included) but that’s not to say it doesn’t provide tremendous value because a game here is a very special experience.

This golf course is a class act. It's a small piece of history that has passed the test of time as one of the few courses in the world where you will require every shot you have ever learnt. This complimented with magnificent views of the Firth of Forth and the Fife hills to the north of you along with all the beautiful birds and wild flowers make Muirfield a magical place to spend a day. The warm hospitality and the fact that very few enjoy the company of the Royal Edinburgh Golfers make you appreciate the day even more. The food is delicious and the whole atmosphere is memorable as being unique as this is is very very special place in the history of golf as will your day.
