Terrace Downs Resort

Toller Golfplatz, preislich etwas höher als die meisten Plätze in Neuseeland. Sehr gut gepflegte Anlage, die meisten Löcher sind sehr interessant zu spielen. Sehr gut gepflegte Fairways und Greens. Liegt am Fuße der Berge, schöne Umgebung. Lohnt mit Sicherheit einen Umweg.

Geweldige baan. Super onderhouden. We speelden helemaal alleen op de baan. Geen enkele andere flight.

Goedkoop en super mooi.

Dus n aanrader mocht je in de buurt zijn.

Hier kan niet veel beter.

Alles 200 %, vreemd alleen er is geen enkele klandizie.

Ongelofey rustig gespeeld, super uitzichten en n hele mooie baan. 18 holes, par 72.

Terrace Downs GC as part of a resort is located in a beautiful area at the base of Mount Hutt Ranges and overlooking the Rakaia Gorge. A nice course and ranked high on the new Zealand list. The 18 holes par 72course with 4 tee-boxes from 5300m up to 6400m long so make your choice. Besides the length the course has sufficient water hazards and bunkers so some additional balls in your bag are welcome. The front 9 looks more on a parkland course and the 2nd 9 could be compared to a Scottich course so quite different. Course is well maintained and nice greens with good speed. Clubhouse is good and staff will ensure all are wishes will be fulfilled. Nice course in beautiful surroundings.

The pro-shop was closed by the time I got here (18PM) so the reception was a bit messy. Waiter said I could just go, an other lady insisted on my credit card details to sort the payment out later. I was expecting quite a bit from this relatively new golf course. It's high ranked in NZ, but some things don't really match in my opinion. It's a parkland course in an alpine setting. The design isn't spectacular and somehow not very natural, but the views (especially on the back-nine) are pretty.

It's a strong walk from the back tee's. I don't know the prevailing wind here, but the wind made the tough holes even tougher. A lot of PAR 4 400m + holes and a 550m PAR 5 played into the wind. Fairway bunkers are well placed here, to the modern standards distances from the tee's. I didn't like the sand in them, it's more gravel than sand. I guess sand is a scarce substance here in NZ. Wind blows it out of the bunkers with large amount as well, so the bunkers are a lot bigger then they intentionally want them to be. The greens where pretty firm and slow when I played them, might need a little more growth to mow them a little bit shorter. Most important was that they had a true roll, which was good.

I expected a little more from Terrace Downs than what I've got. It seems like the resort is still struggling a bit with their identity. Logo balls where $10 Titleist Pro V1's and all accessories on the golf course (except distance markers) are 'A-Class'. You sense that they kind of what to get to that level golfing wise. Whilst the course is 'only' a Titleist NXT the time I played it... Still a good ball though :-)
