Kiawah Island Golf Resort - The Ocean Course

Legendary course and unique, bucket list experience. Played on a hot day in May, under pretty windy conditions. Managed a decent score thanks to the good advice from the caddie. Strangely the course looks a lot like a traditional English links course (reminded me of Prince's in Sandwich).

Incredible experience from start to finish! The course is so well-designed and so beautiful, the setting is phenomenal, the nature is different than anywhere else on the Island.

The caddies were exceptional, the clubhouse and its terrace has the best view you can imagine. Just superb.

The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island was certainly in my bucket list. We booked a package at the Kiawah Island Resort which included acommodation plus a greenfee at any of their courses. The total package was actually cheaper than the greenfee of the Ocean Course alone. So we had a pretty good deal I'd say!

The Ocean Course is considered to be a very tough golf course. I was adviced to bring enough balls. But to my surprise the fairways had plenty of width and I left the course with more balls than I had on the 1st tee. But beware of gators if you enter the marsh! :-)

Another fun fact about the course is, that there aren't any bunkers at the Ocean Course. While there is plenty of sand to be found, they all play as waste areas and there are no rakes to be found.

The most challenging part of the course were the raised greens. The approach shots into the greens were very challenging. I liked the short par 4 3rd hole on the front nine the most. The hole wasn't driveable for me but it was still an interesting hole with lots of trouble around the green.

On the back nine I enjoyed the last 4 holes of the course the most. They all play close to the ocean and the beach is in play on 3 of the 4 holes. The clubhouse is also a nice view to look at. The signature hole, the par 3 17th hole played brutally tough into the wind that day. I wasn't too angry about my bogey there. And be prepared to have a few people watching you in the clubhouse on the 18th hole. A good finisher hole on a great course!

An excellent test of golf especially if the wind is up. The course has a great deal of variety in the holes. The course is fairly forgiving off the tee and the premium comes on the second shots. The course was in excellent condition. The practice facilities were very good and the caddie we hired was very helpful. It is a great course to walk. The course is expensive to play.

$80 for military discount can't be beat... Thought about playing from the tips to get the 'pro experience', but by the 5th hole the normal tees were exerting their influence... Course surrounded by beach and marsh, no idea where they put the grandstands... Saw a few gators so don't get adventurous looking for a ball...
