Golf Club du Domaine Impérial

Site panoramique et club house majestueux.

Prachtige baan en super onderhouden. Je moet van hole tot hole wel veel lopen, soms lijkt het wat onlogisch maar altijd de moeite waard, dwars door het idyllische bos langs kabbelende beekjes. Het indrukwekkende clubhuis is echt prachtig met een heerlijk terras aan het meer.

Minpuntje van de club is wellicht dat er wel erg veel greenkeepers ook in de middag op de baan zijn, het is vrij duur en er is helaas geen hole uitkijkend of spelend naar het meer.

Een van de mooiste banen die ik (voor de vijfde) keer gespeeld.

Der von Russell Talley unter der Federführung von Pete Dye geschaffene 18-Loch Meisterschaftspatz gehört zusammen mit dem Golf Club de Genève auf der anderen Seeseite, zu den schönsten Golfanlagen der Schweiz. Der Kurs selbst besteht aus zwei unterschiedlichen Umgebungen, welcher einen besonderen Reiz beim spielen ausmacht. Die kürzeren Front 9 befinden sich in flachem bewaldetem Gebiet und erfordern präzises Spiel. Die zweiten 9 Löcher befinden sich im offenem und sanft gewelltem Gelände. Obwohl der Klub direkt am See gelegen ist, sieht man wegen der schönen Bäume den schönen Genfersee leider kaum. Es handelt sich um einen privaten Club, der für Besucher unter bestimmen Bedingungen (z.B. HCP30//3xpro Jahr) gespielt werden kann. Das geschichtsträchtie Clubhause (Villa Prangins) das Prinz Jérôme Napoléon (Cousins Napoléon III) gehörte, ist schon alleine einen Besuch wert und gibt eine traumhafte Sicht auf den Lac de Geneve und den Mont Blanc preis.

The 18-hole championship course created by Russell Talley under the direction of Pete Dye, together with the Golf Club de Genève on the other side of the lake, is one of the most beautiful in Switzerland. The course itself consists of two different environments, which make for a special attraction when playing. The shorter front 9 are located in a flat wooded area and require precise play. The second 9 holes are in open and gently undulating terrain. Although the club is located directly on the lake, the beautiful trees make it difficult to see the beautiful Lake Geneva. It is a private club that can be played for visitors under certain conditions (e.g. HCP30//3xpro year). The historic clubhouse (Villa Prangins) which belonged to Prince Jérôme Napoléon (Cousins Napoléon III) is worth a visit on its own and offers a fantastic view of the Lac de Geneve and Mont Blanc Mountains.

I’ve played a few rounds here as a guest of members. The course itself is very much a course of 2 halves (as many courses are). The front 9 is a bit claustrophobic in that the holes are in the trees which leads to a feeling therefore that you need to be very careful with your tee shots. The front 9 is not so long so précision shots are required rather than bombing it. Back 9 opens up in comparison and brings in a couple of water hazards (although water doesn’t feature much on the course overall). Greens are immaculate and relatively quick for the region. Not the greatest in terms of picturesque views as you don’t see the lake or the mountains very much (which was surprising as it’s located on the shore of Lake Léman). It’s very much an upscale private club so even playing as a member’s guest is not easy as guests are not allowed on weekends...

Créé par Russell Talley sous la signature de Pete Dye, le Domaine Impérial est considéré par beaucoup comme le plus beau parcours de Suisse. Pourtant, l’on ne peut s’empêcher de penser que « cela aurait pu être encore mieux ». Si les neuf premiers trous sont fabuleux, le retour laisse un peu sur sa faim, surtout à la lumière du green-fee incroyablement élevé (même selon les standards suisses). Les 4 par 3 manquent aussi de variété et le Lac Léman n’est quasiment jamais visible, à part depuis le putting green. Mais ces quelques déceptions sont vite oubliées sur la terrasse du clubhouse, une villa majestueuse construite par Bonaparte.
