Golf has been played on the Portsalon links since the 1880's.
The club was one of the founder members of the Golfing Union of Ireland, the oldest golfing union in the world. Originally designed by Charles Thompson of Portrush, the layout has evolved over the decades with significant changes being undertaken under the guidance of Pat Ruddy in 2000.
Currently ranked in the top 25 courses in Ireland by Golf Digest, Portsalon continues to progress, with the 2014 Ryder Cup captain, Paul McGinley, guiding further improvements.
Nestled under the Knockalla mountains and stretching along the magnificent Ballymastocker beach, a true test of links golf presents itself. Above all, a warm welcome awaits you.

Grappige baan, maar voor mij niet spetterend te noemen, helaas geen drivingrange. Golfshop is matig te noemen. Horeca is ouderwets gezellig ingericht, beetje Amerikaans-achtig.

Riktigt skitväder försämrade helhetsupplevelsen, men det råder ingen tvekan om att Portsalon är en upplevelse utöver det vanliga.
Layouten är omväxlande och kul när du spelar dig igenom sanddynerna.
Framförallt ska du passa på att njuta de första hålen då du är riktigt nära havet.

Beautiful course along the white sandy beach and some surprising teeboxes on the back nine. Could be a little better signposted. One of our favorites this summer holiday. Well worth a visit and will be demanding for sure in windy conditions. Took a bath in the Atlantic instead of the shower in the clubhouse.
