Played both Premier and Championship course.

Premier started off a bit iffy, but ended up being a lot if fun with some spectacular holes utilising the hillsides. Championship course must be a nice parkland course, but unfortunately we got stuck in a storm which was too tough to enjoy.

Go for a package deal at the hotel. Fabulous value for money.

The general layout of thegolf course is very good and you get some very good views of the surrounding countryside, the female member of staff in the pro shop was very friendly and kindly pointed me in the direction of the first tee, as this was a practice round for an upcoming competition I was allowed to go from the white tees which apart from 3/4 holes didn't make much of a major difference, the bunkers were a bit sparse when it came to the sand but on the whole they were consistent, there is a practice ground and putting green.

The clubhouse is very nice indeed and my wife and I enjoyed a light lunch before heading home, however I did lose £1 in the halfway house trying to buy a tube of wine gums which was unfortunate, a lovely course which I will enjoy playing again in the near future

The Premier Course was opened in 1990 by former European Tour Professional, Andrew Murray. The dramatic natural undulations of the Cheshire sandstone ridge means each hole has a distinct and unique character, which provides eighteen very individual challenges during your round. The impressive colonial-style clubhouse offers magnificent panoramic views across the golf course. Boasting several bars and dining areas, the clubhouse is the perfect setting for a post-round meal.

The Championship Course at Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa , opened in 1990, was named 'Golf Course of the Year' in 1995, and is the star of Portal's golfing complex. Designer Donald Steel has created a challenge that is characterised by unique and distinctive holes; expansive water hazards and cascading waterfalls are among the tests. The signature is typical of Steel's magnificent 7,037 yard layout - the long third tips the scales at 607 yards, with a green guarded by a beautiful lake.

Nestled in the tranquil Cheshire countryside is our hidden gem, the Arderne Course. Designed to test and improve the game of experienced players whilst also providing the ideal practice facillity for those of all ages. It's picturesque water features, contoured greens and mix of holes ranging between 100 and 310 yard makes this a delightful course to spend time with friends or family.
