About Borth and Ynyslas Golf Club

Golf as it should be played. Arguably the oldest in Wales, this traditional championship links course offers a great test of golf for all standards of player. Add to this superb clubhouse with bar and restaurant, a well stocked Pro's shop and practice facilities, Borth and Ynyslas provides a great venue for serious competitors and holiday golfers alike. Running alonside Cardigan Bay and bordered by nature reserves, the Dovey Estuary and Snowdonia beyond, the superb setting may distract your mind from the odd errant shot, but the easy walking will enable the least agile of us to enjoy a round or two, and the opportunity to master this grand old lady of Welsh golf. One thing is for certain, a warm welcome will await all those who visit, and a desire to return to recover that dropped shot.

Borth & Ynyslas

The oldest golf course of Wales, since 1885.

Borth & Ynylas is a good place to get in touch with „the links experience“. It is not demanding and quiet cheap using the Golfhäftet Card. It’s traditional routing seems to be unchanged for more than 100 years. You will find everything which means „hlinc“ and yes, B&Y is listed in the Links Association.

It is an Par 70 -5717 yards - easy course, with

- Little undulating fairways but small greens

- dunes all around but not view blocking and giving protection from the wind mostly

- no trees

- Hard-sandy soil with this water-absorbing grass / moss mixture and this unique turf.

- the possibility to play after the heaviest rainfall.

- no blind shots and

- natural bunkers and never forgiving rough.

Challenging; the distance to cross from tee box to fairway entry, even from yellow!

To make it harder, there is a little street with tourist traffic parallel subdividing the course which is pointing 9 holes to the north and 9 holes southbound. The fairways are really narrow and it might appear IN and OUT are overlapping.

Pedestrians cross the fairway 3 times going to the beach which is the border to the west. Of course, there is a railway track running parallel the whole course.

Unfortunately the course is maintained below average and the thousands of rabbit holes endanger any walker to step into one. The greens are slow and former holes clearly visible. The course is not signposted at all, marker are less visible. The wind and seagulls might have distributed some plastic trash laying in small numbers but visible all around the course which minimize its beauty. Trolley are available but in a non proper condition. There is no training area, no pitching green and the driving net should be replaced. A small putting green next to tee 1 is available. A Short Game Par 3 Course is available but we realized that warm up chance when returning from 16.

At the same time, this place looks especially natural and you feel 135 years of golf history. The easy and simple restaurant is rated below standard, we did not enter to prove it better. But what we experienced is the most friendly and helpful staff of all courses around - many thanks for this warm welcome.

B&Y - a course full of golf stories. If you want to try „hlinc“, it‘s ok but not a must-have-played-course.

Morgen cardigan. 30£ is redelijk

Borth & Ynyslas is a classic ‘out and back’ true links course.

It may not be in the same class as its near neighbour, Aberdovey, located on just the other side of the Dovey Estuary but lovers of links golf will find enough here to warrant a visit.

The best stretch of the course is from the 10th to the 14th. These holes mostly have large dunes running down the right and although they are not really in play they do help frame this delightful run of holes.
