California Golf Club of San Francisco

This is golf at its very, very best. The club was extremely welcoming and had all the facilities needed: great range, bar, locker room etc without any of the unnecessary swimming pools you get at many places in the US. It was extra cool getting to use Ken Venturi’s old locker.

The golf course was simply outstanding. It is wide open with a handful of trees to frame the holes but not block the views. It also had short grass throughout so it was impossible to lose a ball and the bunkering made it look drop-dead gorgeous. Coupled with hard and very fast (12) greens, this set-up made it super-fun, giving you the chance to attempt shots you just can’t at most places (eg getting to a front pin by pitching onto the backboard).

I’ve played 20-odd of the Top 100 in the world but I‘ve never had more fun on a golf course.

Invité le jour du Superbowl, j’allais raté le match et j’allais devoir conduire 650km dans la foulée pour rentrer à LA.

Mais jouer Cal Club ca ne refuse pas... et 18 trous plus tard je ne pouvais que confirmer cet adage!

Quel parcours! Le design, les greens, les bunkers, les arbres. Depuis sa rénovation ce parcours est rerentré dans les 100 meilleurs parcours du monde.

J’ai vraiment adoré chacun des trous. Et si vous êtes un fan d’architecture de golf alors tout y est. Petit par 3, long par 3, cape hole (...) un gros coup de coeur.

Seulement sur invitation et à noter que 0 cash ou carte de credit n’est autorisé... et puis le cocktail dans l’immense club house après un round est un must.

Bref gros coup de coeur!

What an experience to play on this epic golf course... the lay out is a real challenge and the maintenance is on a superb level... the pencil and bunker renovations off Dr. Allistor Mckenzie give this course a real historic feel... the redesign by Kyle Phillips, made this course impressive, fast and firm...

I was invited by my client and friend Erlend, a moment that i still appreciate.

Deze club is privaat en behoort tot het selecte kringetje van The Olympic en San Francisco GC. Enkele jaren geleden heraangelegd door Kyle Phillips.

Prachtige baan met grote cypressen, schitterende bunkers met dikke grasranden, veel hellingen en hoge greens die supersnel zijn. Eerlijke layout met brede fairways.

De moeilijkheid ligt vooral in de lengte van de holes en de perfecte greens.

Fantastische afsluit van onze uitstap naar California.
