Mid Ocean Golf Club

Mid Ocean Club is a private club that was designed in 1922 by Canadian born architect Charles Blair Macdonald and revised in 1953 by legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones. Home of the 2007 and 2008 PGA Grand Slam of Golf, this is a true ocean course that consistently ranks as one of the finest in the world. Big greens, possible 35 mph winds and six par 4’s over 400 yards will definitely test your skill and patience. The first three holes run parallel to the ocean but the 3rd hole is probably one of the most picturesque on the island, a downhill par 3 that runs perilously close to the rocky cliff ocean shoreline. The 5th hole is the toughest on the course. With Mangrove Lake in play all the way down the left side, this is a very intimidating hole. You will find there are plenty of bunkers to contend with but the sand is very consistent. Be forewarned though that the Bermuda rough or “snatch grass”, as I like to call it, will grab your ball and settle in or bury. Mid Ocean is a private course but allows guests on Monday, Wednesday and Friday only.

Zeer gastvrij ontvangst, fantastische kleedkamers met alle ja alle voorzieningen en erg mooie lockers. Groot clubhuis waar nog wel iets meer sfeer aan toegevoegd mag worden. De shop heeft een ruim assortiment artikelen.

Oefenfaciliteiten zijn goed, ballen liggen klaar en op sommige dagen is het vanaf gras oefenen.

De baan is perfect onderhouden en speelt lang. De meeste fairways zijn breed maar er zijn veel hindernissen en veel hoogteverschil.

Vreemd is dat je drie keer de openbare weg kruist 2x vanaf de afslag een keer vanaf de fairway. Vanaf de afslag moet je voldoende carry hebben lukt dat niet en heb je voldoende rol dan wordt de bal gelanceerd door een soort "skischans".

Greens, ja zo zie je ze niet in Nederland, snel en lastig maar niet onmogelijk.

Kom je in Bermuda dan MOET je deze baan spelen.

En visite chez un ami aux Bermudes, j'ai eu la chance de jouer à 2 reprises ce club privé et ce fut un reel plaisir. Le parcours offre des vues spectaculaires sur l'océan atlantique et la qualité du design n'enlève en rien à l'intérêt de ce 18 trous (CB Macdonald comme architecte).

Par example, la variété des greens sur les par 3s n'a jamais vraiment été égalé avec tous les types possibles représentés et notamment sur le 8 ou encore le 17 qui offre une vue spectaculaire sur l'océan.

Le trou signature est certainement le par 4 du 5 qui oblige le survol d'un lac et de la mangrove afin de toucher un fairway qui peut s'avérer peu coopératif (avec une maison au milieu du fairway).

L'ambiance au clubhouse est tout à fait dans le style des Bermudes et cette visite sur cette ile paradisiaque reste un fabuleux souvenir.
