Trump International Golf Links Ireland

At this time of year in Ireland its unusual to get such run on the ball. Superb condition. Atmospheric. All the staff so helpful.

played in January. Not allowed to play off fairways. Greens were the worst i have played on. uncut. slow. Beautiful course but greens let it down.

This is always a very enjoyable links course to play with one of the most visually exciting first holes anywhere in golf. I have played many times and it is clear to see that constant battering from the Atlantic makes greenkeeping hard, and they tend to leave the greens a bit furry. A great layout, wonderful staff and taking a caddy always helps.

Trump International Doonbeg is very good links layout with some great holes however I think the rough is just way too brutal for a resort golf course especially if you play it 2 days in a row with 40-50 mp/h wind. Trust me, it was not a pretty site even though it was sunny... so unless you can really shape your shots and hit it low make sure you bring a lot of balls with you. :)

There are not many weak holes here but my favourite holes are short but technical Par-4 5th where iron or a hybrid off the tee is enough to have a short iron or a wedge to quite small and tricky green. Drivable Par-4 6th hole with ocean on the left side and green which is well protected with pot bunkers. Seaside Par-3 9th where the pot bunkers, wind and iron selection will probably define your score. Dogleg right Par-5 13th to an elevated and well protected green is probably my favourite and you can reach the dance floor in two. Short Par-3 14th hole downhill towards the ocean on the right side is a beauty. Par-4 15th is also a solid hole but don't be too long off the tee. Short Par-4 18th to is a lovely hole with ocean all the way on the right side.

Holes 7 and 11 are also solid Par-3's. Par-5 10th hole is a beast if it plays into the wind.

The resort itself is very good, hotel cottages are huge and well equipped. Maintenance of the course was very good with no major complaints except for the heavy (too heavy) rough. Pro-shop is nice and well stocked, unfortunately service in the restaurant was very slow... even though I ordered my food 40 minutes prior to my tee time I had to take my burger with me... but they sure they charged it to me even thou I had to trow away half of it. :/.

Really nice golf course with perfect maintenance. Allthough it’s a links course you don’t see the sea all the time as the dunes are quite high. We played it in strong wind, so the expirience was not as nice as it would be at usual wind speeds ;) the only thing we didn’t like was the service in the restaurant, otherwise everything at high standard. I didn’t play with a caddy but my friend was quite unlucky having one with not much expirience on the first day and no show on the second one.
