East Devon Golf Club

For some who have not heard of East Devon - you are in for a real treat! This is one of the south west's hidden gems and some of the best views you will find anywhere in England. Some may find a few of the holes quirky - such as the 17th with its "hogs back" fairway daring you to get as close as possible for your second shot across a vast ravine. Dealing with the elevations on many of the holes will be the main challenge. Over this wet winter - the course has suffered somewhat and a couple of the holes have been closed from time to time. Carry only as well. Despite the challenges - green keepers have managed to keep things in generally good order. Club house has a good view over the 18th and a good selection of food and beers.

Prachtige baan sommige greens lijken makkelijk maar in de praktijk ? toch wel moeilijk. Over algemeen mooie baan met super uitzichten. Erg goed.

Few courses provide such a dramatic and memorable setting for a round of golf.

This cliff top course has been carved through a profusion of heather and gorse and serves up fast running links style fairways which allow for play year round.

East Devon Golf Course is very much making a name for itself nationally as one of the top golfing destinations. This has been recently backed by Top 100 who have placed East Devon in the top 60 courses in England.

Peter Alliss is a big fan of East Devon and was quoted as stating that the 16th   tee provides players with the “best view in golf”.

Certainly not the the longest golf course at a little over 6300 yards, East Devon is the defining proof that a course does not need length to prove quality. However when a course is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, what do you expect!

Ons eerste rondje in Engeland gespeeld in Devon. De baan is qua lay-out niet spectaculair. De greens daarentegen des te meer. Snel, geonduleerd en mooi onderhouden. De uitzichten vanaf de fairway zijn super. Je ziet op verschillende holes de zee prachtig liggen. Samen met twee Engelsen gespeeld die ons tijdens het lopen de nodige tips hebben gegeven, wat niet overbodig was gezien de opbouw van de fairways. Leuke golfdag gehad.

It’s a venue which is quite difficult to build into a high quality multi-course trip; a little too far west of the famed Dorset contingent and a niggly cross-county trek from the magnificent links on the North Devon coast. That said, it is certainly worth making a detour to visit this charming cliff-top cum upland-heathland layout.

The par 70 (SSS 71) course has a particularly lovely start with a couple of sub 350-yarders to get us warmed up. Avoid the heather from the tee and put your ball under the hole with your approach at both of these gentle par-fours and you may pick up a birdie. On the other hand, tangle with the gnarly rough or leave yourself a downhill putt and you could be frustratingly dropping shots left, right and centre. The four-quarter-level green at the second is truly fantastic whilst the third is also a particularly fine hole sweeping elegantly to the right.
