Golf in Torrevieja
Torrevieja is located 50km south of the Alicante which makes it easy accesible via Alicante Airport. Torrevieja was originally a salt-mining and fishing village as it is located between the sea and two large salt lakes (Las Salinas). These two salt lakes provides Torrevieja with a healthy microclimate. This is one of the reasons why elderly people flock here as well as people with psoriasis or astmatic and reumatic health issues.
The nice beaches of Torrevieja - La Mata being the most famous - are located between the new part of the city (Torre) and La Vieja referring to the old fishing village of Torrevieja. In the past there was only an ancient guard tower and some labourers' cottages, hence the name Torrevieja which actually means Old Tower. When visiting Torrevieja make sure to visit this Torre del Moro as it is the oldest building in town. Also pay a visit to the salt lakes, but make sure to clean your skin with clean water as it might cause a tingling sensation for quite some time.
Torrevieja is great for a golf break as it has a hot and semi-arid climate with sunny and mild winters and warm to hot and sunny summers. Early autumn is the season with the highest chance of rain.
