Golf courses in Devon

Devon is for most foreign visitors a holiday destination for beaches and cream teas, but the golfer who comes here discovers a county with more golf history than almost any other part of England. Royal North Devon Golf Club at Westward Ho!, founded in 1864, is the oldest golf course in England still using its original fairways and is not without reason known as the St Andrews of the south. Saunton has two excellent courses along the North Devon coast; the East Course appears regularly in national top lists. Bovey Castle offers a completely different experience: a parkland course in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, surrounded by a landscape found nowhere else in England. Devon is large and varied; the courses are spread across the county but the coast provides the best concentration. Exeter Airport serves the region with direct flights from Europe.
