Drenthse Golf Club "De Gelpenberg" founded in 1970 , is the oldest golfclub in Drenthe . The club is well known for it's harmonious and active club life. De Gelpenberg offers fantastic facilities within the clubhouse. These include a restaurant, bar, terrace, specious changing accommodation, conference rooms and a golf shop. The course, the clubhouse and the golf school make this the ideal location to organize your corporate days, golf events and clinics.

Drentse Golfclub "De Gelpenberg" is een traditionele ledenclub, maar wel één waar gasten meer dan welkom zijn. Een gastvrije ontvangst van zowel leden als greenfeespelers is een belangrijk kenmerk van onze vereniging, waarin vele commissies zeer actief zijn. De Gelpenberg heeft een aantal verschillende lidmaatschappen. Een lidmaatschap kan iedere maand ingaan, maar kan alleen aan het einde van een verenigingsjaar worden beëindigd.

De baan wordt door de club zelf omschreven als "de mooiste van het Noorden", wat ik (nog) niet kan bevestigen, aangezien ik de andere banen niet ken, maar dit is zeker een hele mooie baan, die de moeite van het overbruggen van een grote afstand absoluut waard is, waarbij je bij aankomst meteen aangenaam verrast wordt door een (nieuw) prachtig parkeerterrein. De Gelpenberg is een mooie golfbaan. Het clubhuis, de ontvangst en de horeca zijn meer dan goed. Ondanks dat we hier onder bizarre omstandigheden speelden (wind, regen en hagel), hebben we een mooie golfdag gehad en waren de baancondities goed te noemen.

Het lijkt wel of de Gelpenberg elke keer dat ik er kom mooier is geworden. De routing, de lay-out, de diversiteit aan holes, allemaal goed, net als de staat van het onderhoud, dat laatste mede te danken aan de inzet van een kudde schapen. Noemenswaardig is de rough; die is prachtig om te zien, maar bekijk het van een afstandje... eenmaal er in kom je er niet eenvoudig wee…
