The Country Club Johannesburg Woodmead

Played here while on my way to Amsterdam (visiting friends who took me to Woodmead). Great club with a nice atmosphere. Good F&B before and after the round.

Course in itself is nice, mainly straight and long(-ish) which does not give you a lotto think about. Having said that, playing straight over and over again can be challenge in itself...

Der Golf & Country Club Johannesburg verfügt über 2 sehr lange 18 Loch Par 72 Plätze (7200m / 6300m). Jedoch keine Driving Range, kein öffentlicher Kurzplatz und auch nur mäßig große Übungsflächen, die der Gesamtanlagengrösse nicht gerecht werden.

Der Golfclub gibt sich elitär, Tee Times ohne Begleitung eines Mitgliedes sind eng limitiert. Die Kleiderordnung wird unangenehm auf die Spitze getrieben (keine farbigen Socken, keine 5 Taschen Hosen - also Beintaschen). Allerdings erfolgten Belehrungen erst nach Greenfee Zahlung, Hinweisschilder waren nicht angebracht in dieser Detaillierung.

Der Platz war in mäßigem Zustand, schlecht beschildert und die Grüns langsam und schlecht gewässert. Die Marshalls unnötig aufdringlich, bisweilen unhöflich. Wenigstens die Anblicke auf Umgebung und JoZi Stadt entschädigten ein wenig, dazu beeindruckende Naturmomente.

Das Clubhaus ist hingegen fantastisch! Bestes Essen, tolle Infrastruktur, aber 2 Klassen Bedienung; members and others...

Zusammengefasst: eine Enttäuschung und definitiv kein Spiel wert! Es gibt viele und viele bessere Plätze um JoZi.

Two extremely good golf courses. Excellent bar and possibly the best halfway house in Johannesburg. Very popular and always great fun to play.

Played the Woodmead course. What a joy! Greens weren't as fast as others in Johannesburg, at least stimp 10 is not so scary but fine. Course is very nice with a big variety in holes, like par 3 over water long holes, uphill and downhill, reachable par 5's. Because its hilly there are some nice views. Clubhouse looks great and changing room and showers are very nice. Overall definitely recommend this one!

The clubhouse and facilities are superb. The conditioning of the golf course needs attention. When someone books a round on the course they should be informed whether the greens are undergoing maintenance.

A snooty atmosphere takes away from the experience, e.g. hats are not allowed in the half way house.
