The Metropolitan Golf Club

This was the 5th course I played on my Australia trip and I am glad I managed to get a tee time.

When you arrive at the Metropolitan, you immediately notice the difference between this one and the other clubs I have played (RM, KH, NSW...). The clubhouse is new and beautifully made, the same goes for the surroundings. Great entrance, a well stocked pro-shop, very nice restaurant and a ball room capable of hosting a large party. When I arrived I was given the tour of the facilities and was explained the history etc. by the reservation manager, who was extremely friendly and very helpful, he also made the process of booking a tee time a dream, which was not always the case when I tried to do so in other clubs in Australia. So as far as hospitality goes, the Metropolitan really deserves the highest accolades!

After the tour, it was time for the play. I was pair up with a pro from Sydney, and sadly, had one of the worst round that I can remember, I literally spend more time looking for the ball than actually hitting it. It was especially frustrating since I had a great round in the morning playing at Kingston Heat and a day before at Royal Melbourne. In any case, the people I played with were very patient, it was much appreciated. That being said, objectively speaking, I don't think it is a particularly difficult course, it has a great layout, I found it more fun to play than RM and KH, and if you get in a good shoot, you are rewarded by hitting the ball from a fantastically maintained fairway, really like a carpet! The same goes for the green, due to the weather conditions, they were not particularly fast, on the day I played, but very well maintained and not to tricky. The one thing dough, you want to be on or close to the fairway, otherwise, prepare to have a close look of the lavish vegetation that surrounds the course, and o boy did I get to spend some time on my round that day...

Definitely recommend to play the course if in the area and if you can get a tee time.

Après 18 trous à Royal Melbourne West le matin, me voici à Metropolitan l’un des meilleurs parcours du pays/monde.

L’accueil y est superbe dans un magnifique nouveau clubhouse (meme si perso je préfère les anciens clubhouses comme à Morfontaine, Royal Melbourne ou encore Western Gailes).

Pour être honnête, le vent et un peu de fatigue m’ont fait moins apprécier le parcours que ce que j’aurais du. Mais les fairways, mais surtout bunkers et greens sont dingues. Juste parfaits. Il n’y a pas de cut entre les greens et les bunkers ce qui donnent un look assez incroyable. Il y a énormément de trous de grandes qualités. Mais la stratégie n’est pas aussi omniprésente qu’à Royal Melbourne.

Clairement il ne faut pas passer à côté de cette beauté quand vous êtes à Melbourne.

Mooie duinenbaan met schitterende greens. Heel veel bunkers die groot, diep en moeilijk zijn. Holes soms lang, soms kort. Prachtige par 3s! Strategisch spel is een must. Bomen hinderen bijna overal. Volgende november wordt hier de Worldcup gespeeld (zie foto).

Quite simply one of the best courses in Australia, beautifully manicured fairways are a treat to the golfer upon standing to address their shot. Bunkers are those typically Melbourne sandbelt ones, a real treat.

Metropolitan is a really great golf course with a beautiful design and the layout is a lot of fun. The bunkers are placed perfectly and the greens are also a challenge!

The pro shop is very welcoming and will help you on your way to the first tee.

It has hosted many tour championships and will host the World Cup of Golf November 2018!

This is one course to play in Melbourne if possible!
