I’ve read a lot and seen many pictures of this golf course so it was exciting for me to play there. The Dunes course is a 5 minute drive from the old clubhouse which is now a nice pub. The Dunes has its own little clubhouse which looks really nice and the people who served me where really nice and friendly. The day I played it was sunny with a bit of wind. The course wasn’t set up as I’ve seen it on all the pictures. The rough was friendly and most fairways were wide enough for us amateurs. It has some really nice holes where under a few good par 3 and par 4. They show that a good par 3 doesn’t have to be long as you see on so many courses. Some holes have blind 1st or 2nd shots. Nothing to worry about as the course book gives you all the advice you need.
If I’m back in this beautiful part of the world I would definitely come back. I will than also play the old course as this one is even better reading some reviews.

Great course, with fairways which are never level. I love the approach of only allowing a landscaped teebox and green, and not having to much work done through the green. This creates a challenging and very natural course feeling.
Bijna net zo geweldig als de “oude buurvrouw”, maar net iets minder omdat er grotere open vlaktes zijn, waar je dus vol kunt uithalen maar niet zo gestraft wordt.
Verder is het behoud van het originele land natuurlijk te prijzen (en authentiek), maar daardoor misschien net iets te veel humps en bumps en blinde schoten.
Maar iedereen die in de buurt is moet deze baan wèl gespeeld hebben! Mijn advies: eerst Machrihanish Dunes spelen en daarna Machrihanish.
Echte 'ouderwetse' links in een natuurgebied. Soms even lopen naar een hole.
Vrij nieuwe baan, die er al eeuwen lijkt te liggen. Spannender dan de buurbaan!

Prachtige baan in the middle of nowhere. De dichtstbijzijnde plaats Campbeltown biedt niets behoudens een beeld van Linda McCartney die ooit met haar man Paul over de Mull of Kintyre zong. Daarin werden de golfbanen helaas niet genoemd. Terwijl de banen de enige reden zijn om er naar toe te gaan.
Ik vond de Dunes veel uitdagender en moeilijker dan haar beroemde naamgenoot. Er zijn enkele blind shots die je spel wel wat vertraging kunnen opleveren als je je bal zoeken moet...
Het is de reis waard om beide banen te spelen en dan snel weer ergens anders in Schotland te verblijven.

The routing, as well as the positioning of its tees and greens, was dictated by the lay of the land – and the presence of several endangered species of flora and fauna. Machrihanish Dunes is the only course ever created on a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
