The Royal Dublin Golf Club

One of the Best Links Courses we have in Ireland, located on Bull Island the drive to the Clubhouse is picturesque. Practice area is average enough but when you step onto the 1st tee you know it’s a top course. Fairways are good and if you are wild off the tee you’ll be punished, the Greens are always in great condition, pact and true, just the way I like them! Front 9 usually plays with the wind behind you and then most of the back 9 you’re playing into the wind, this normally kills my round! There are a few great holes at Royal Dublin but my favourite is the 18th, long sharp dog-leg right hole with your second shot normally over a huge OB area.. risky but entertaining.

Fantastic Clubhouse and Staff throughout, one of my favourites for sure.

Royal Dublin was a great experience. I got to play the course twice in the space of four days and surprisingly enough my game is in a good place at the moment so I even thoroughly enjoyed the golf side of it too!

As for the experience, it all starts on the wooden bridge and the hustle and bustle to try and get passed the parked cars on a busy day. There's a nature reserve and popular beach on Bull Island so the traffic both human and automobile can be a tad stressful if running tight on your tee-time. All that changes once you get past the gates and make your way to the changing rooms and out onto the tee. Luckily for us the conditions were nice and friendly while playing and the course was in great condition. The ground and tees were firm and scoring was possible but I imagine this is a real tough test during windier and wetter conditions.

The Par 5s on the front nine are monsters, even on a calm day, especially the 6th hole so bring your distance an accuracy. On the back nine there are some real scoring chances especially if the wind is behind. Both par 5s are reachable in two if the wind is helping and the 16th offers at least a par.

The 18th is a fantastic hole and highlights what has been an amazing round. The service in the bar is nice and friendly and there's always a bit of banter on the tables outside. If anything could be improved I would say the pace of play but the popularity of the course has to be taken into consideration.

Aan alles op deze golfbaan proef je de oude tradities, door de droogte waren alleen de greens nog groen, het lijkt een beetje op een Afrikaanse steppe met een paar bomen en hoger geel gras, waar zo een jachtluipaard voorbij schiet :), een mooie uitdagende redelijk vlakke baan met gemene bunkers, ook bumprunners werkte hier goed, al met al echte de moeite waarde om hier je golfkunsten te vertonen.
