The Awali Golf Club

The oldest golf course in the gulf since 1934, very nice course to play with a great social members with a long season from September till end of may, the atmosphere is amazing during the weekends specially after the prize giving every Friday, course is perfect for amateurs & professionals& the Bahrain Open is the biggest event in the club usually in April.

The Awali golfclub was the 1st course in Bahrein and often like myself used by expats from Saudi Arabia to travel over the bridge from Al Khobar to play the course and have a nice beer afterwards, that was very special and enjoyable. The course at that time was sandy and browns but that is what we are used to as all the courses in the middle east were more or less the same in the early 1990's. The Awali course just as in the UK has given all the holes a name and is a par 70. (5 par 3's and 3 par 5's). For visitors from Saudi the course and atmosphere was very nice and therefore lots of golfers took every year 1 or 2 breaks to visit The golf course and the capital Manama due to the far more relaxed way of living. Would be interested to see if it has changed over 30 years but we had nice memories.
